I doubt purchasing all these new components will ensure my performance over the next four years. It should work for that period, but I’m confident I’ll be able to upgrade things like the CPU during that time. Right now I’m evaluating the best options so I won’t have to worry about major upgrades later.

The M.2 slot receives full PCI-E 4.0 support because those lanes originate from the CPU. Regarding Sony and SSDs... the console includes a built-in hardware decompressor within its chipset to aid loading times and reduce overall game size. This could also enable direct decompression and faster data transfer straight into the video card. It’s a possibility. We’ll find out what happens or how it works once it’s released. There’s no guarantee, but it’s possible a smart solution could replace things like pcie4, z390, and b350. It might also mean a new card or motherboard will be required. Planning is really tough.

If your files are uncompressed or lightly compressed, you'll typically work with 100-200 Mbps bandwidth—enough for smooth performance. Even during final rendering, compression rates won't be that high, so read speeds from the drive shouldn't become a bottleneck. You can often use proxy versions instead of importing full-resolution files; this saves time and reduces load. A threadripper is manageable with its PCIe lanes, though it may not be necessary for most tasks. It offers more cores but lower performance per core, which isn't always ideal. Unless you're using the newest socket and processors, some applications might struggle with its quirks, affecting gaming or productivity. That's why I'm hesitant about threadripper—most users won't need those extra lanes, and sticking with a standard socket offers better value. If you really want the latest socket, consider TRX4 instead, especially with newer chipsets that support faster memory and future upgrades. The SSDs won’t make editing faster, but they might help with rendering and other tasks, especially as software improves. I also don’t edit much, though I do work with many files. It doesn’t generate enough income to justify spending all my time on it.
