When you're investing in $2000+ GPUs, the $120 boost makes sense. If you manage to upgrade the 9800x3d, it's worth it. For a $3000 GPU, any additional purchases aren't worth considering unless they offer clear value. You've already mentioned being comfortable with overspending.
I understand it's a bit absurd, honestly. My thinking is that GPU budget stays apart from CPU and other components because gaming has always been GPU-heavy for the titles I play. Right now, though, I don’t have enough funds to buy something above 5090. The market seems to be moving up in price and availability already, but not as much for 5090 yet. I think I’ll wait another 4 to 6 months before purchasing, maybe sell my 4090 now to get a better deal that can help cover the cost of the 5090 later. As for the 9700X and buyer’s remorse, I really felt like I got the wrong chip. It’s tough deciding between it and the 7800X3D—I wasn’t sure if it would be worth it. If the 9800X3D is the top choice right now, it would make sense to grab it. *EDIT* I forgot about the 7800X3D—does it come with overclocking options?
The 7800X3D is secured because the X3D cache sits above the chips, which blocks efficient heat dissipation. They keep the processor speed low to prevent overheating. Regarding the 90 series, prices are rising rapidly—if a $100k car in 2024 suddenly offers 15% more power for $150k, would you consider it? I also have some options available if that interests you.
