You're wondering if switching to Windows 8/8.1 makes sense given your current setup. Lenovo suggests upgrading from Win 8 to Win 8.1, but you're concerned about performance if you revert to Windows 7. It's worth noting that formatting and installing Windows 7 might not fully restore the original experience, especially for newer features and updates.

Many individuals consistently prefer moving backward because they feel the current setup is outdated, while they believe Windows 8 offers a more refined experience with full control over its design.

There was a noticeable variation in performance between Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in BF4. Some users experienced a 20-30 FPS gap during upgrades.

I'm having trouble accessing YouTube videos right now. Could you provide an article or source that discusses this issue?

The request was just reviewed. For Windows 8 users, updating to 8.1 is sufficient. Downgrading to Windows 7 isn't necessary.

I improved performance by 15 FPS in BF4 using ultra settings after switching from Windows 7 to 8 and then 8.1. See the details in the signature above.

Only for titles leveraging Direct X 11.2 enhancements. Elsewhere, gains remain minimal in both directions.
