Hey there, I'm experiencing performance issues at 40fps to 80fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Only about 5GB of VRAM is being utilized on optimal settings. My system specs are: CPU i5-9600K, GPU RTX 2070, 32GB RAM at 3200MHz. My friend with similar hardware averages 80-90fps. I'm worried about a CPU bottleneck and wonder if upgrading would help. Any suggestions? Also, drivers are updated and CPU usage stays high in-game. Thanks! - Dr. Edited Nov 29, 2020 by Drfrankenfish
I don't face those problems myself; I mainly deal with more texture issues. My FPS stays above 60, usually around 80 to 90.
Hey, thanks for the update. All my drivers are current—game and Windows updates are handled. I know optimizations will come eventually, but it bothers me when my games don’t match console performance in FPS. Cheers, Dr.
Overall, the 7700 works better for the game since it handles more than six threads well, which explains why the 9600k might be having trouble. Plus, performance is inconsistent for many players at the moment.
The 7700 isn't necessarily a superior CPU compared to the 9600K in any situation, not even for single-threaded tasks. The 7700 is limited to reaching up to 4GHz across all cores, whereas the 9600K can hit 4.4GHz on four cores and 4.3GHz on all six cores.
