Hey there, just wanted to share my thoughts. I ordered a Ryzen 5800X with a motherboard and RAM, but the RAM is still missing. Intel is rumored to launch Rocket Lake in mid-March, which is exciting. I’m currently running an i7-3960X and want this upgrade to be the best possible. I’m feeling a bit guilty about the delay. Should I return everything and hold off until Rocket Lake drops, or will it be tough to get an Intel CPU at launch like it seems for other parts? Thanks!
I’d prefer to stick with the 5800x and hold off until RAM is available. It offers great performance, and if Intel improves it, it’ll likely come down to a much higher base clock and significant heat output.
With a 250W TDP 5800X, it's not a big concern about cooling needs.
OK sounds fine. My strategy will be to retain the 5800x and consider the 5900x if it appears within my return period. The main concern is whether the GSKILL TridentX 16GB fits the budget or offers better performance. I’m leaning toward keeping the ADATA model first. Thanks!
The 4133 RAM would be wasted; I’d exchange it for a 3600 CL 16 kit.
Same boat situation. I bought a 5800x from AMD's store and it should arrive tomorrow. They only let you decline shipment or request an RMA for a refund. I have the chance to take it or pass on the delivery. The issue is, I really just grabbed it because it's tough to find and it was in stock. Right now I'm running an overclocked 8700k and don't think this upgrade makes much sense. For me, it feels better to hold off until Alder Lake or Zen 4 comes out.
