Sorry for the unclear question. Since I've been building PCs since the Pentium era, the PCI-E bandwidth concepts are really confusing to me. I'm using a GIGABYTE B550 AORUS PRO V2 mainboard with a Ryzen 5800X3D and just installed a Gen 4 SSD in my second NVMe slot—my first NVMe slot is also filled. According to the board's spec sheet, I should be able to use one extra PCI-E slot (the 1x Slot) while keeping three SATA ports active. My GPU and both NVMe drives should operate at full speed, right? I don’t have any additional PCI-E cards installed, but I want to make sure I’m not limiting my system’s performance. Thanks ahead for your help!
Sure, the PCIe x4 slot you mention is for the middle one of the three larger ones. The top slot goes for your GPU, and the other x4 slot is used for SLI or dual GPUs. As long as you’re not pairing two GPUs, that works. Most systems don’t have anything in that PCIe x2 slot—just a GPU there. SATA drives disable the lower PCIe x2 slot. You’re all set.
Thanks for your feedback! To be clear, I only have my GPU in the main PCI-E x16 port, with no other PCI-E cards. There were some issues: it seems the motherboard disabled other slots, which might have triggered an internal change. At the end of its Device Path, my GPU displayed "BUS6" instead of "BUS5." This caused Wallpaper Engine to lose my monitor settings and MSI Afterburner to think I had a different GPU that wasn’t applying my undervolt settings. The fix was simple—just change the "5" to "6" in the Afterburner config file. Haha!
