I am thinking about getting an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, but I want to know if I need to upgrade my system. Here is my current parts list: CPU: Intel Xeon X5650 CPU Cooler: Cryorig H5 Universal Motherboard: Intel DX58SO Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB Case: NZXT S340 Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular

The device struggles to keep up with its tasks. I wouldn't recommend using it.

Ram and GPU perform well. I'm uncertain about the CPU since I'm not familiar with it.

Check a few VR performance tests, such as the VR Mark Orange room and a Steam VR benchmark. It seems the setup is near the lowest possible standards—could succeed or fail depending on that. The Rift demands less power than the Vive.

Your current specs are solid, but overclocking could boost performance in VR if the hardware can handle it without overheating.
