I’m facing some serious gaming lag lately, especially with Overwatch. My ping stays around 80-90ms and spikes can hit 300ms or more, which is way too high. I’m using an Orbi RBR40 router with two extra access points, but my internet speed is steady at about 90 Mbps down and 20 up. The problem seems to come from the local ISP’s satellite mesh setup—no reviews or feedback available. I’m wired through a switch → hub → router across two floors, which feels suboptimal for gaming. Port-forwarding and QoS didn’t help, and MU-MIMO doesn’t improve things. It might just be my router’s limitations or the network setup. I’m not sure what else to try, but I’d appreciate any suggestions or overlooked steps. Thanks!
there are a few choices that improved my performance from 250 ping to 21 ping 1. ethernet would be ideal if available; otherwise, option 2 should work well. 2. GRC DNS is a tool that significantly stabilized my connection. I used it while playing rocket league with pings between 250 and 2000, which helped achieve stable 21-32 ping DNS server performance benchmarks.
I’d begin checking bandwidth and ping from within your router’s interface. I’m aware in the US many people don’t receive the speeds they pay for—unless they have a solid fiber connection. Most companies don’t guarantee a specific minimum speed; they usually promise you could reach a certain maximum. The idea of “roof-mounted satellite mesh” seems like it could cause latency problems, so I’d aim to test as close as possible to the satellite dish for minimal delay. Likely, the issue isn’t with your home setup but with something outside your network.
