Hello! I set up my PC in early 2017, with most components being around five years old except for the GPU and M2 SSD. Last night I played CoD Cold War on Ultra settings, achieving 65-75 FPS, which seemed fine. But when I tried it today, the FPS dropped to 40-45, and the machine felt very hot. The fans were spinning intensely. I checked my CPU temperature with Speccy, it stayed between 80°C and 90°C. Is this typical? It definitely sounds like overheating. Shouldn’t the liquid cooler I chose keep things cool? Would upgrading the CPU, motherboard, and water cooler be necessary? Or is there another issue? Thanks for your help! I also use the H100x on my PC. It works fine and should handle a 7700K well, especially without overclocking. What case are you using? How many fans are there, and how are they installed inside the case? Limited airflow might cause the AIO to struggle. The 3070 also generates a significant amount of heat.
90C is quite warm, yet it doesn't cause the 7700K to throttle. It's still a decent CPU, and the 3070 offers solid graphics performance. Look for your RAM details—speed and latency are important.
It's been roughly five years since you last re-pasted and installed the CPU cooler. That timeframe is often when paste may begin to lose effectiveness. Have you verified the pump is operating for your AIO? If it stops, your CPU could become significantly hotter. Five years is also when an AIO might start showing issues.
These user benchmarks might not indicate anything meaningful. It appears the RAM performance is likely subpar, and their reliability isn't confirmed.
There are two methods to verify: using software and performing a manual check. With tools such as HWInfo64, you can observe the pump speed readings. If the speed reads 0 rpm or an unusual value (such as below 100 or above 5000, which is far outside normal AIO pump ranges), it likely indicates a problem. If the readings appear typical, you can physically inspect the system by holding the tubes and sensing water flow. Remember to follow all safety precautions—inserting a hand into an active computer can pose risks and should only be done with caution.
The XMP is disabled, as indicated by the message it displays. It also shows it's operating at 2133.
