all began after I applied my thermal paste. My computer often loses connection to the internet, happening 5 to 6 times per minute. The time varies from a few minutes to just seconds. My dad uses Wi-Fi while my brother plays games over cables, but neither has issues during play. I notice the network works fine when I’m alone at home, but it becomes unstable when others join. What might be causing this and how can I fix it?

From what I know, your brother probably uses an Xbox One, and it seems to have poor internet connection. It doesn’t appear to be a CPU issue, so it’s likely not related to reapplying thermal paste.

It's possible you might have harmed the motherboard during installation.

Check if the WiFi card is part of your MOBO or if you need a separate one.

You're connecting via cable, not Wi-Fi.

I want them to stop playing right away. I connect my cable straight to the router, but it still works after about two hours. It feels a bit better though, the difference isn’t huge.

The DC encompasses the entire computer, with a label indicating no cables connect when powered down. If the router encounters an issue, why isn’t the whole family impacted? They can keep playing games around the clock. Can you find a way to test if your motherboard’s internet components are functioning properly?

Can you retrieve data from within your network when you disconnect? All game systems consume significant resources unless turned off. Most of my network activity comes from my son's PS4 and I stay online frequently (watching videos, etc.). Review your settings under network and sharing during disconnection to determine if the issue is a network cut-off versus internet loss. Also, consider testing a different cable if you're wired—loose connections can cause problems. Hope this helps.
