I assembled the PC about two to three weeks ago and it operated smoothly. Recently, I purchased a used NZXT x53 to upgrade my old air cooler. During the initial setup, I misaligned the USB 2.0 header on the motherboard pins, but the system booted and launched Windows afterward. Everything appeared normal until the PC abruptly shut down and failed to power on at all. Even after switching back to my original cooler, the machine remains unresponsive. The only indication of activity is the RGB lighting on the motherboard activating when I press the PSU power button. I cleared CMOS by touching the pins for 10–15 seconds while the PC was off, reinserted my RAM, and transferred it to another system—there it worked, while it showed no signs of life on mine. I tested RAM slots by using one stick in different slots and found them functional elsewhere, though mine didn’t respond. I checked for faulty RAM slots by removing one stick and trying another, and reseated the CPU. I inspected the pins for damage and even tried booting with the GPU removed, but nothing changed. I also shorted the power button contacts without success. All connections seem secure. It seems the issue might be with the PSU or the motherboard itself, though the PSU still powers via its RGB LEDs. I’m fairly certain the motherboard is the culprit. Any further advice would be greatly appreciated!
I don't have direct access to your PC's components. Could you provide more details or check your system's documentation?
It seems the cooler stopped working right after you installed it. I’m curious if the cooler was actually functioning properly—especially since you mentioned it was second and things were going wrong. Were you doing anything else at that moment? Also, try turning off the PC, unplugging it, removing the CMOS battery, clearing the CMOS, and then reversing the process to see if it helps.
Thanks for your reply! It seems the previous owner mentioned it was functioning, so I’ll go with that. For the brief time the system was running, the RGB LEDs lit up and the CPU temperatures were normal for an AIO setup. I didn’t put the system under heavy use since I was mainly adjusting LED colors in CAM software. The PC still won’t power on even after removing the AIO and swapping it with my old Hyper X212, which suggests the issue isn’t tied to the AIO.
I don’t use the cam software and there seems to be an issue with it. It’s puzzling why your PC won’t start with the old air cooler installed. I’m not sure what’s causing this problem. Please let me know if someone else can assist!
I’d suspect a corrupted bios file or an issue with the power source. The cooler seems unlikely to be the cause, and misalignment shouldn’t matter much either. The power supply consistently provides a 5V standby, which feeds the chipset that checks your power button press and then instructs the supply to switch to full voltage while delivering 3.3V, 5V, and 12V. This could happen if the standby voltage is corrupted, causing instability during initialization—either the chip gets damaged or becomes stuck trying to boot. Updating the bios would confirm it’s intact, and swapping power supplies would help determine if the problem lies elsewhere on the board.
