Hey there, so I just took out my CPU for cleaning and when I put it back in I saw a tiny issue on my LGA 1700 board. Check out the photo I sent. I’m feeling a bit worried now. It seems bent, but I’m not sure what the exact bend looks like or how severe it is. Should I try to fix it myself? I can’t turn on the system because I just returned my PSU for repair.
The pins bend slightly when you latch the CPU retainer. That's how they apply pressure to the pads on the bottom of the processor. It should be fine, I've un-bent LGA pins and left them in worse shape than that and the socket still worked. If you're that worried about it, use a small tool to very delicately bend it back so it's more in line with the pins around it. Why were you removing the CPU from your PC for 'cleaning'? That wasn't necessary.
Not required unless facing posting or unsolvable stability problems or other strange issues such as dead RAM channels. Even then, you'd likely need to force the CPU socket with 99% IPA for thorough cleaning. Minor flaws like this are usually just normal factory tolerances—no cause for concern.
I really hope it isn't a costly paste. But honestly, regarding the pin, I’d wait until I can try it out if it functions properly. Since the picture shows only a minor issue, I won’t bother fixing it just yet. After all, once the CPU is installed, I’ll see how it looks.
Take care of yourself and keep track of the pin location. It seems the pin has shifted out of place, which can cause problems. The issue arises when the base of the pin in the socket becomes loose, allowing it to move sideways or off-center. This problem has happened before, causing a loss of dual channel. Finding the exact spot where the pin is misplaced helps me fix it—just push it back into position, reinstall the CPU, and it should work again until the next occurrence.
