I’m putting together a computer and everything else is set. A friend suggested going up to 32 GB instead of the 16 GB I originally planned. He uses his machines differently and works professionally, so I didn’t really consider it at first. Now I’m wondering if the extra memory is worth the higher cost. Are there any games that require 32 GB or will demand it soon? I’m not a big gamer anymore, but I intend to keep this setup for about five to seven years.

It really depends on how they plan to use the computer. Ram is simple to upgrade, so I don’t worry too much about it

Only playing games and basic chores isn't enough. Doing creative work such as video editing, streaming, or managing VMs makes it worthwhile. It really depends on how you intend to use it.

Others have mentioned the situation, but the choice really depends on your needs. Right now, the only game demanding 32GB of RAM is Microsoft Flight Simulator, while many others can run it smoothly on 16GB.

Absolutely, I see your point. It's interesting you brought up Flight Simulator and Forza Horizon 4—those are definitely some of the top titles I'm eyeing once my PC is ready. If I need more performance, I can always upgrade with matching RAM sticks.
