I recently purchased a new Asus Ac86U router for a low price on Craigslist. I’m currently using a 1Gb/s fiber plan and am just starting out with networking. I’m wondering whether to keep the default settings or adjust some configurations. I’d really appreciate any advice from this forum! Thank you!
Currently, most networking tasks are straightforward to use, so it should work well.
Some routers include a packet or performance indicator that can negatively impact speed if enabled. It simply displays the incoming and outgoing packet count, though I’m not sure if manufacturers like Asus set it by default. If you notice poor performance, look for this setting. Beyond that, expect near full line rate but aim for at least 900Mbps on wired connections, which is quite close.
This setting name is commonly referred to as "Theme" or "Appearance" depending on the platform. Let me know if you need more details!
I'm uncertain about the exact details, but I recall hearing about it from others who shared information years back. I'll try to find clarification and will update you if needed.
