Hello everyone, I recently purchased an RTX 3070 Ti but it’s not working well in any game I play. I’ve tried reseating the card, reinstalling the drivers, and using NVIDIA’s performance settings. I’ve also reached out to their support team for about two weeks without getting a response. I’m trying four different solutions: 1) Using a power supply not recommended for this model (650W 80 Bronze), 2) Checking if my CPU is the bottleneck (I own a Ryzen 9 3900X which cost $530), 3) Reformatting Windows (I’m on Windows 11 and don’t want to waste time downloading again), and 4) Assuming my card is faulty. Here are my specs: CPU – Ryzen 9 3900X, GPU – RTX 3070 Ti Founder’s Edition, RAM – 16GB, PSU – Corsair 650W 80 Bronze, SSD – Samsung QVO 1TB, Mobo – TUF GAMING X570 (Wi-Fi). I’ve done everything possible and still can’t resolve the issue. I’m at a loss after two months of effort, and it’s costing me a lot of money. If anyone can assist, I’d be deeply grateful. Thanks. ***UPDATE*** As of May 3, 2022, I reformatted my Windows 11 with no noticeable improvement. I’ve confirmed the problem isn’t with my GPU, as it runs fine on another system. Now I’m considering two possibilities: 1) CPU issue, or 2) needing a new power supply. I’ve looked into my PSU and CPU compatibility and believe they’re suitable for my setup. However, I still have doubts about the CPU. On 3DMark, it scored 8043 – a very low number. My PSU is around 8 years old (bought new about a year ago), so it shouldn’t be the main cause. I’m open to suggestions. Thanks.
Just made the changes, sorry! I know it’s a bit different from typing.
You haven’t shared all the details about your setup yet. Could you clarify which games, configurations, or performance metrics you’re referring to?
I understand, I'm here now. Here are the details: CPU - Ryzen 9 3900x GPU - RTX 3070 Ti Founder's Edition RAM - RIPSJAWS GSKILL 16gb PSU - Corsair 650W 80 Bronze SSD - Samsung QVO 1tb Mobo - TUF GAMING X570-(Wi-Fi). What I’m talking about is performance, around 50 FPS at low settings and 1080p. That’s not typical for these games like Insurgency Sandstorm, Battlefield 2042, GTA 5, Elder Scrolls Online, or Fortnite.
I faced a similar issue once with my previous laptop. It came with 1660TI 6GB RAM and an i7 9850H processor. One day, when I tried to play a game, I experienced 5-10 FPS, and the userbenchmark reported the lowest possible performance for that GPU. After reinstalling drivers and adjusting my NVIDIA settings to prioritize only the GPU, it didn’t help. Eventually, I had to reset the system and format the drive, which resolved the issue. It’s unclear if this would work for your setup, but a fresh Windows installation might be the solution.
I experienced a comparable problem with my laptop running an i7-10750H and a GTX 1660 Ti. It would get stuck in battery mode due to power management settings. The fix was simply removing the power brick and reconnecting it. Could you share your temperatures? There might be a hotspot on the GPU die not covered by thermal paste, leading to throttling. For this, use HWInfo64 to check your GPU temperature and hotspot. A gap over 20°C suggests an issue with the thermal paste—15°C is acceptable and 10°C is excellent.
It didn’t happen with my setup. I verified the power configuration was high performance, and there was no thermal issue since it hit 80°C maximum.
Exactly how it’s doing varies—sometimes it’s a lack of frames per second, other times the game is freezing. Observing thermal readings and clock speeds can help pinpoint the issue. You might also want to check if DDU works as a troubleshooting tool.
