I own an Asus crosshair VIII hero with a 3900x display, two 16GB G.Skill neo 3600 RAM sticks, Seasonic Prime 1000W power supply, and an EVGA 3080 Ti graphics card (replaced the original fan assembly with an EK water block). It has performed well for more than a year. About a month ago, while gaming all monitors, they would go black but I could still hear and control the OS (start > CMD > shutdown -r) on reboot. The display showed back up and no BSODs appeared, though DWM.exe had errors. I decided to reapply TIM to both CPU and GPU. Now I see a white LED on the board and an error code 02. I’m stuck because I don’t have any replacement parts available—I sold my 1700x and 1080Ti after installing the new system. Any advice would be appreciated.
I’ve also tested a reliable HDMI cable on every monitor (connected through 1.4 DP cables so far) and replaced all power cables.
You're referring to 'TIM' as an abbreviation, but it seems like the context might be unclear. It sounds like this issue is similar to what you encountered before, making it much tougher to pinpoint the problem without replacement parts. This situation appears to happen specifically during gameplay.
By TIM I refer to the thermal paste (I sometimes call it thermal interface material). I'm looking to skip buying new parts if AMD x3D CPUs arrive soon next year. The monitor blacking I only noticed while gaming showed a Nvidia DLL restarting—similar to when a USB device is plugged in and removed. Initially, I thought Windows had fixed it by rebuilding both in Windows 10 and 11 just to verify, but the same issue appeared in both. EVGA recommended checking the PSU and the 12V rail, which I did and found stable at 12.152V for five minutes without any changes. That’s when I decided to repaste.
