I took the offer for the iCUE H170i ELITE LCD Display 420mm AIO a couple of weeks back. It was refurbished, but I chose to include the warranty just in case. I'm setting it up and it's now functioning as a cluster unit. I'm mounting it on a 7800X3d and an ROG STRIX B650-A Gaming board. The setup guide says to take off the plastic bracket, but the one I have is metal and secured with special screws that won't budge. I think those instructions are for AM4 components. I was planning to leave the bracket in place—it's likely the lever holding the CPU. Now I've fastened the pump and heatsink. When I tried connecting it, only two cables were available: one for the ICUE commander core and a USB header. No 3-pin fan header was visible. I searched online but couldn't find the exact match. Am I missing a connector on the pump? Did I make a big mistake?
These are the sole cables connected to the pump. The Commander Core is designed to work with it, using power from the core through that connector. The USB header cable is likely for control purposes. It seems the assembly appears complete without any missing components.
The unit that connects to the CPU fan connector is the core component.
The system doesn't seem to be sending any data from the Commander Core. The video I saw shows a 3-pin connector on the pump, suggesting three cables should be connected. It looks like some of the cables might have been removed or damaged. Updated January 7, 2024 by Godlygamer23
Here’s a revised version of your points:
1) Connected the pump to the USB header via USB.
2) Linked the commander cable from the pump to the commander core.
3) Established USB connection from the commander core to the USB header.
4) Provided power data from the core to the PSU.
Does this seem correct? Also, I’m not sure about the purpose of that final cable—USB header to two… what?
The final cable is a USB header splitter. I assume it allows connecting another device to the header, letting the pump share space with it rather than occupying the whole header alone. Which connectors are exposed from the pump? Did any parts get trimmed or removed?
The header splitter serves the Commander Core and pump, both sharing one header slot. Could you share images of the connectors included? Make sure all are detached from the pump assembly and none are missing. It seems the main purpose is to display RPMs and indicate a cooler is attached to the motherboard. The cable appears to be quite short. Edited January 7, 2024 by Godlygamer23
