I recently reinstalled Windows 10 Pro. During the setup phase when you were prompted to enter a product key, I didn’t provide one. I was thinking about using Windows Unactivated since that’s what I usually do. While installing my drivers, I checked the properties to ensure Windows recognized everything. When I reviewed it, it showed Windows as activated. I thought maybe there was a small issue. A few days later it still appears activated. I’m not complaining, but I’m curious about why. Thanks in advance.

It relies on the motherboard's hardware ID or your Microsoft account for verification. Was the board activated earlier or does your account handle this?

The board never turned on. Before the update, I used an unactivated account with an offline setup. After reinstalling, I connected my Microsoft account. It worked only on my laptop, which was already activated.

As mentioned, I'm not complaining, but it's strange.

I’m feeling uneasy and might begin to grumble. It seems Windows 10 is reaching out once more to the main office.

You might complain about free activation because it can feel unfair or misleading, making you question the value of the service.

It appeared to interact with Microsoft's main office or an unexpected server without prior permission. The system began performing unusual actions that were hard to predict—generally not a positive sign. What other functions might Windows execute behind the scenes?
