Before diving into more details, I want to highlight why I’d still enjoy playing AC:U despite some reports about instability and subpar optimization. Many videos I’ve seen suggest it’s a decent title, and positive Steam reviews make it seem like a solid choice (assuming it runs smoothly). Even though there are concerns, I believe it’s worth trying if you can get it to work. With that clarified, I started a discussion earlier this week about the APU in question. Since I didn’t receive a clear answer on gaming performance, I decided to focus more specifically on how this APU would affect my setup. I’m aware that APUs aren’t the best for gaming or content creation, but from what I’ve seen, they perform better than Intel integrated graphics. The main reason I’m asking is about upgrading my laptop’s motherboard—currently using an AMD A8 4500M—and converting it to an AI-O configuration. This would allow me to get a replacement screen and necessary components, then reconfigure everything in an AI-O style setup.
In WoW it should work well at a medium to high setting, while in AC Unity it runs smoothly, even on powerful machines where the game might otherwise lag or crash.
ACU performs quite well. As an APU owner, I note its impressive graphical capabilities. On my A8 7600, I managed to play titles such as Outlast and Just Cause 2 in medium resolution at 1080p while keeping 30-40fps. But with a strong GPU (like a 760 OC), the APU struggles with CPU tasks, causing noticeable bottlenecks and likely requiring an upgrade. @ wcreek
Perhaps in sparsely populated regions, there aren't any raids happening.
It functions as a DX11 component; it runs the game but performance varies based on your standards. A 7750 typically delivers around 800x600 at low settings, maybe 20 FPS or less. If you're okay with that, go all out!
My main point is the same as what I've heard about AC:U—there are too many issues to overlook. Perhaps if Steam offered a discount, I'd consider buying it. It mostly feels like a solid game, but Xbox 360 doesn't have it. I'm not keen on getting a next-gen console because of a.) planning a PC build in the next ten months, b.) preferring PS4 over newer options, c.) wanting more flexibility with an AMD build instead of spending $400 to $500 on a console.
It seems like a decent game based on some videos, but its poor optimization and inconsistent launch make me hesitant. I’d really like to give it a shot before buying on Steam, even if it’s not great. If there were support for Xbox 360, I’d probably rent it like Redbox. If I don’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t play it again or often.
