Check the USB usage stats for each controller.
My valve index system struggles with tracking hand movements, especially when dealing with a few extra peripherals. I need to see how much of each USB controller (chip) is being used, similar to how CPU, GPU, and memory usage are displayed in graphs for thousands of programs. It would help to quickly identify which component is the bottleneck without needing to dive into VR settings. This makes it easier to decide whether to buy a PCIe USB card just to check performance. Why does this seem so difficult to locate?
usb chipsets don’t seem to offer any metrics interface. though the motherboard chipset might track pcie link usage, that’s unlikely. still, check the motherboard’s block diagram—it’s probably just a rearrangement of components, spreading the heavy tasks across its existing controllers.
I just noticed the VR headset was using a USB 2.0 connection. Even with a 3.2 gen 1 port it had some problems, but I’m hoping switching to the 3.2 gen 2 Type A will resolve them. I’d still prefer a simple software solution for tracking USB activity in the future. It would be great if USB could provide detailed metrics similar to CPU, GPU, and RAM. Edit: by the way, there’s only one controller present. Hopefully, using the fastest port with a budget touchscreen and a Steam controller—each on different USB types—will give us sufficient bandwidth. Edited April 6, 2023 by slickmann1
