This is an old laptop probably 5+ years or more that had been stuck on a cabinet Im going to dispose it then I remeber that i need to take out the storage first for safety reasons and I noticed its a good SSD would want to put this in my pc and try to use it My guess is the whole laptop got submerged with flood water theres still remants of liquid on the SSD itself Need help in procedures of how to clean the SSD Sata and if I need to open the caseitself and clean the pcb this is my first time doing this so I dont know what should i do to safetly clean it without breaking it This is the only alchohol I have in hand will this be okay to use for cleaning?
Remove the PCB from its housing, place it in the IPA, and lightly scrub it with an old toothbrush. Allow it to dry before connecting it to a USB enclosure. This protects the computer if the SSD fails. What caused the flood? Rain? Sewer? (Back in my day, a basement suite backed up with more than two feet of sewage water—very little could be saved.)
You can carefully remove the SSD case without harming it. Look for a small latch or clip on the side, gently press it, and slide the case out slowly. Avoid forcing it, as that could damage the plastic. If you're dealing with a damaged SATA cable, try using a soft tool to separate it from the case rather than bending the plastic.
I’ve disassembled this drive model before. As mentioned earlier, there’s a visible screw exposed, but there’s another one beneath the sticker at the highlighted spot. After removing the PCB, make sure to thoroughly clean it and allow it to dry completely. If any alcohol remains, avoid powering up the SSD—it could cause a short and lead to damage. The ethanol you have should work, though it will evaporate more slowly, which is helpful for cleaning stubborn oily residues on the parts and PCB.
