There’s no conflict here. I think my response was quite kind to Consols, though it feels a bit harsh to me.
I receive around 60 frames regularly on ultra, but in certain zones (such as Shangri-La) I drop to the 50s, occasionally even into the mid-40s. When I disable VSync, my game runs smoothly all the time. If I enable VSync, it causes noticeable stuttering right after I fall below 60 frames (which is normal with VSync).
It's listed in my signature. The processor is an i7-3770K, running at 4.5GHz.
To see just how fragile the consoles are, open the Nvidia control panel, adjust the game to adaptive half vsync at 30 FPS, similar to the consoles. Enjoy Nvidia DSR and Ultras. Consoles appear underwhelming without mip mapping, and even worse with pop effects. You don’t need high anti-aliasing with Nvidia DSR or AMD VSR. Downsampling offers the best AA. It can render the game crisp at 30 FPS. For 60 FPS, turn off mip mapping in the XML file. Expect some pop (less severe than consoles) but still a smoother experience without stutter. This is mainly a CPU bottleneck, not a GPU problem. The GTX 970 should handle 1080p ultra at 60 FPS without stutter. A capable CPU exists, but the game struggles on just one core.
PS4 runs at 1080p native, XB1 offers 1440x1080p upscaled to 30fps using Voodoo Magic, giving a high-quality feel. Their console version of HRAA/SMAA techniques still delivers solid performance, averaging 31-36fps on Ultra/SMAA/High Shadows. The visuals remain impressive even on my machine.
