I added a second NVMe SSD recently and haven’t checked it yet. I’m not sure if my main PCIe 16 slot is sharing bandwidth only with the secondary slot. Is 8 Gbps under load suitable for PCIe 3.0 x16? It’s 2.5 Gbps when idle, sometimes reaches 5 Gbps, and peaks at 8 Gbps during gaming. GPU-Z indicates it should be at PCIe 3.0 x16. I’m not even sure what the Current Link Speed means. Meanwhile, my wife’s machine (Z390, 8700, 5700XT) reports 16 Gbps for both current and max speeds.

I understand it slows down in idle, likely dropping to PCIe1 and PCIe2 during lighter tasks. This metric probably shows how much GPU bandwidth it can use—around 16 GT/s on PCIe4. It makes sense since PCIe4 supports that speed, but your wife's motherboard might not be configured or capable of handling it properly.
