I’ve been experimenting with my PC and attempting to ensure it’s fully updated. The B450 Pro4 motherboard now has its BIOS set to P1.50, dated 11/5/2018. I was trying to figure out why the RAM appears at only 1333 MHz instead of the expected 3000 MHz. I decided to inspect the board and verify if a BIOS update was necessary. I’m feeling uncertain and unsure after checking the ASRock website, which suggested updating the BIOS to version 1.8 before proceeding with newer updates. I was hoping someone could quickly clarify the process for updating to the latest BIOS. From what I know, I can only upgrade to BIOS versions up to 3.5, given my AMD Ryzen 7 1700X. Is that accurate? The memory controller in the 1700x series (including all Zen 1 CPUs) performs poorly. The advertised RAM speed rarely matches real performance unless it was already included in the manufacturer's QVL. I recommend against updating your BIOS. Try using the Ryzen DRAM Calculator and input the values it provides yourself—it will take some time.

Sure, I’d consider going up to 3.50. Also, make sure XMP is turned on to ensure RAM operates at 3000.

I entered the BIOS after noticing the RAM at 1333. XMP was enabled by default, so I switched it to XMP Profile and adjusted the speed to 3000. I wasn’t sure about any other steps to improve performance. This was my first time tweaking RAM settings in BIOS.

If XMP is turned on and the BIOS reports 3000MHz, that’s probably correct. The Task Manager isn’t efficient; consider using CPU-Z to verify memory speed.

Upgrading to another CPU might be more effective than only adjusting RAM settings. A move from the 1700x to a Ryzen 3000 series would likely offer a stronger upgrade path. Thanks for your question and the effort you're putting into this!

Going beyond 2666MHz is seen as overclocking, which may not always work as expected. Updating the BIOS to a more recent version could potentially resolve the issue and improve stability.

I revisited the bios settings and confirmed it was still at 3000. I plan to follow the update steps carefully, starting with version 1.8 and then moving to 3.5 once ready. I installed the AMD all-in-one VGA just in case there were display issues. Thanks for your assistance!
