I activated the monitor and heard a sudden popping noise along with an unfamiliar odor. I disconnected all cables from the monitor and removed the connection to the wall outlet. What should I do next? I feel uncertain about handling either device or the power source, especially since I’m unsure what caused this. Should my main PC be safe to use in the same outlet? The monitor’s power cable appears damaged, but what about the extension or the PC’s power cord? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The power cable is defective. The remaining parts, if they function (no security alert), continue to operate.

Do you remember where the smell seems to came from ? You probably can smell it even after some time has passed if you're close enough to the source. If the concern is about the wall wiring, then you may as well unplug every electronics in your house. IMO, it should be fine, if there's problem with it pretty sure your other electronics in the house will be affected too. If it's about the outlet itself, only one way to know, which is to dismantle and inspect. Though sometimes the damage (if there is) sometimes can be seen even on the user facing side of the outlet. Please do not do it yourself if you are not savvy enough about dealing with Mains electricity, call someone who is. And feel free to plug the PC to other outlet in the house if you are iffy about that particular outlet. For extension, pretty much the same as wall outlet. You can DIY inspect for this one (as long you don't do it while it's connected to wall outlet), just don't fuck around with the insides if you don't know what you're doin. PC power cable, I'd first do an inspection of the pins and cable jacket. If you are iffy about it, just buy a new cable, it's cheap enough.

Thanks for the feedback. No further issues detected; the cable has been swapped out and everything appears to function properly at this time.
