She’s experienced GPU failures before, especially with older cards like the GTX 580 and GTX 780. It’s possible age alone isn’t the only factor. To protect her new setup, consider testing the RTX 2060 in a controlled environment first. If issues persist, sending it back to Amazon for a replacement might be the safest move.

Certainly. The key is ensuring it includes PCI Express functionality.

It seems another part might be responsible for the problem that leads to GPU failure.

Since the details of the prior cards aren't clear, you can't be certain what will happen to the next card. Check if other cards are losing their visuals, burning, or causing unusual sounds.

The main focus is ensuring stable power supply. The GPU works well with 500W or higher, but you should also check the PSU's age—likely around ten years. For better performance, consider a third-generation i7 with 3770k, which are affordable now under $50.

If the GPU failed due to age, I wouldn't suggest replacing it immediately in an outdated system. The 2060 would likely be limited by the CPU, and without understanding why other components failed, it wouldn't be wise to invest in a new GPU right now. A 2500k chip is already over a decade old, and based on past performance, it probably won't handle modern games well. The 1080p experience from previous GPUs suggests this CPU will struggle, making a quick upgrade less practical. Switching to a platform with a Ryzen 5 5600G could still let them enjoy some games while saving for a better GPU.

No unusual sounds, fans continue operating, no flames detected. The interface ceased showing an image, yet it appears during startup with some artifacts, but the screen goes dark before the full window loads. Removing all NVIDIA drivers completely would allow sufficient visibility to access Windows despite heavy artifacts.

This seems like a common age-related problem. The new GPU appears stable, but past Supernova power supplies had some issues. Checking it out might be a good idea. It could be the reason.

It doesn't appear to be an update... revised version.
