Yes, but I'm worried about the chance of failing the bios update which might damage the BIOS or Windows, turning the board into something unusable. That extra expense could be better spent on a worthwhile upgrade or a new generation.

Bios installation is uncommon, not as widespread as many believe. Avoid disconnecting power during upgrades. Changing the BIOS doesn’t turn off Windows. Are you employing BitLocker?
