I'm excited to watch my 7700x run smoothly at 95°C for hours.

I ran the CB23 test on a 10-minute multicore session and received 14,175 points. The highest I observed was 84.

I’ll run Cinebench on my 7900x and still can’t hit 95°C with an air cooler. After roughly 20 minutes, the best I’ve logged is 93°C. Under regular use it rarely reaches that level.

That's completely typical. I felt the same after setting up my 5800x3d. Both of us experience a slow start around 30 and then a quick jump to 70 when launching apps or browsers. This processor tends to overheat, but its high voltage threshold helps. AMD claims it can handle the 90s without issues. I've tried using PBO2 Tuner to lower the voltage, which makes it run much cooler while still delivering better performance. I usually set -30 across all cores and haven't encountered any problems. When launching programs, it drops to around 50c instead of 70c, and gaming is about 65c versus 85c.

Understood, the score reflects what you're referring to. The updated chips are built for maximum temperature handling.

That's totally normal, I wouldn't bother at all but you can always upgrade to something better. It doesn't seem like a big deal. Yeah, Nvidia and AMD Boost 1.0 work just fine—same performance as my 3600 with PBO!

Maybe the issue lies with the thermal paste. You didn’t just place a single dot in the center and four smaller ones in the corners, as the manual suggested for AM4. Instead, you applied a thin layer and spread it evenly across the CPU.

It wasn’t a major issue, actually—your readings are entirely within the expected range. I’m not sure how often we have to go through this again.

I have this prepared for sharing in discussions over the last couple of years, including posts like this. Robert Hallock, former Director of Technical Marketing at AMD.

I noticed the jump from 3600 to 5800X3D changes the thermal behavior significantly. My 3600 rarely exceeded 65°C, while this model reaches 80°C easily. The CPU has held up well over ten years, surviving high temperatures that would have damaged older units. Spoiler: it’s a big difference.
