Hello. I recently put in a new Ryzen 7 5800X3D on the nh-u12a. I’m worried something might be wrong. I’m seeing temperatures around 30°C while idle, then rising to 51°C when I open a browser. Currently, it’s about 56°C with just two tabs and League of Legends running. After editing some videos, it dropped to 84°C. My 2700 with the stock cooler only reached 71°C. What could be causing these high temps? Also, both fans spin at 2000 RPM, which is a bit loud.

The processor workload rose? The video editing utilized how many cores? If yes, then it’s essentially a stress test. That cooling unit might have two fans yet only one fin stack, which is okay but not exceptional. The case and airflow seem well-integrated; everything functions together smoothly.

I understand the load has gone up. Still feels too high. It ran all eight cores. P300 3 140mm case fans spinning at 1000 rpm. It’s a bit disappointing since I paid for this premium cooler expecting better performance.

You're running League and editing videos while all eight cores are active even at a low load. That suggests your cooling might not be sufficient. Your airflow could be limited, paste generation may be weak, and mounting pressure is probably low. Consider doing a stress test. Could you share the specific case and fan configuration you're using? A CPU cooler requires clean air to function properly; otherwise it struggles to dissipate heat, especially in a hot enclosure.

This might be your first Ryzen, right? The maximum temperatures during Cinebench are usually manageable. Using hwinfo64 for monitoring is a good idea. The 8-core model handles things smoothly—84°C is still within normal range. For lower temps, a better cooler would help, but the processor seems to function properly. It looks like the 5800X3D is quite efficient, matching the 3600 in temperature and using the same cooling solution. Probably just reflects its strong performance without overheating issues.

I was using a 2700x with the stock cooler, same editing tools, and kept the temperature under 70°C for three years. Now I'm hitting around 88°C. Deciding to give it another shot with Cinebec.

Sure, I also checked it later, but that seems unusual... my 2200G hit 85°C quickly... that’s typical for Ryzen, 90°C is fine, but you should probably consider better cooling since it’ll likely run at full throttle. And yes, try the CB23 so we have a reference point—just do multi since it definitely gets much hotter than single.

the second CPU fan seems more decorative than functional mostly. tested with my 3600 it performed well at 1-2c... sure every bit helps, but it's not much. p.s.: either way, I think it enhances overall airflow in the case, which is why I keep it installed... otherwise the fin stack would block air coming from front to back.
