I recently shared information about game stuttering and someone suggested my CPU was too weak. I’m now considering possible CPUs but face a challenge. My motherboard is a Lenovo BD0311, and I currently have an Intel Xeon W-2135 with LGA2066 socket. I’m trying to stay under $150 for a new CPU and wondering if there are alternatives without replacing the motherboard. Also, I meant to post in another workshop forum.

Yeah but none will be very good for gaming, it's server chips with poor IPC but many cores, gaming needs a few high IPC cores...

Which games are you aiming to play? What graphics card model is it? Based on the search results, your 6-core, 12-thread, 4.5 GHz (Skylake-X) Xeon should handle gaming well. It might also be worth checking if the CPU cooler is clean and if you've refreshed the thermal paste.

It might be the right setup. Your processor demands a lot of power, so proper cooling is essential or it could slow down performance. You can use tools like FRAPS MSI Afterburner to track clock rates and temperatures during gameplay. Xeons with fewer cores but higher clock speeds work well for gaming—this model fits that profile. It’s relatively new, offers 6 cores and 12 threads, and can reach a high turbo boost of 4.5 GHz. This should easily maintain around 60 FPS. You might also try capping frame rates in your GPU settings to reduce stutter, as I did when trying to smooth out Crash Bandicoot despite ample resources.
