You're experimenting with various operating systems on your i5 Surface Pro 3 to explore different environments. While you've tried standard Linux distributions, you're curious about alternatives like Android for a laptop setup that doesn't depend on touchscreens.

I can accept this, I might experiment with remixing OS to check if it’s enjoyable.

ZorinOS stands apart, while Ubuntu remains strong. Both are popular, but ZorinOS is considered unique in the Linux space.

I've been using Zorin for a while now, though setting up the trackpad on the surface cover was quite challenging.

easy to setup-distros like Ubuntu, Mint, or Elementary are great starting points. Progress through Arch, Gentoo, and beyond until you can craft a daily-use LFS configuration yourself.

Consider intermediate distributions like Fedora, Debian, Arch, Manjaro, Slackware, Calculate, TrueOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD. For something more adventurous, try Gentoo. Explore the top five desktop environments—KDE, Gnome, XFCE, Mate, Cinnamon. You can also experiment with lightweight options like openbox or i3. Their wide range of window managers offers many choices; I prefer KDE, but Mate is my top pick.
