I need to buy a CPU because its bottlenecking my GPU. I can and probably will wait until Black Friday but I can't wait until next year for it. I`m using Thicc 3 RX 5700 XT gpu and I`m upgrading from a I54460 8GB DDR3. So I will change the motherboard, the ram, maybe even the power supply (because current one heats up a bit). The problem is the regional pricing in my country doesn't look at all like MSRP. Also this is a gaming / general use PC, i`m not interested at all in productivity. I must mention that I plan to buy this CPU as future proof as possible as I tend to upgrade GPUs allot more often than CPUs. The current I5 4460 i have for almost 6 years time in which I changed 3 GPUs. I currently game at 1080p 60 FPS but I also plan to buy a 1440p 75Hz monitor in the near future. The top 3 contenders for what cpu to buy are : 1) I5 10600 at 260 USD 2) Ryzen 5 3600 at 219 USD 3) I5 10600K at 307 USD. The 10600 I like for its low TDP and high single core boost clocks, but i`m afraid for lack of PCI gen 4 even though I know it doesn't make any difference to any GPU currently on the market, will the same be true 4 years from now ? The Ryzen 5 3600 I like the price, but I don't like the fact that it has lower single core boost than the intel ones. I5 10600k I like this one the least The TDP is higher than the 10600 and its 18% more expensive, the fact it's unlocked for me means just that I`l probably undervolt it to lower its TDP.
On the Intel side, I think an ASROCK B460 MOBO around 130 USD would work well. For AMD, the MSI Aorus B450 M is a good choice at about 95 USD. Including two 8GB DDR4 3200 MHz modules for roughly 72 USD gives you a complete kit. I picked these because they’re affordable, have built-in radiators over the VRM, and offer four dimming slots for future upgrades. My goal is to stay under 480 USD total for the MOBO, CPU, and RAM. I’m willing to spend a bit more if needed.
It’s unlikely unless you’re after the top GPUs available right now. Frequency comparisons aren’t reliable—Zen 2 handles more work per clock than Intel’s rivals (see TechSpot article). I’m confused about TDP numbers; if efficiency matters, you might stop supporting Intel until they adopt better manufacturing processes. Voltage tuning is now possible for all Intel CPUs, even the restricted ones.
I understand there are design variations, but most titles prefer Intel processors. They lead due to better single-core speeds, even though Ryzen offers strong per-clock performance. The debate isn’t whether Intel is superior for gaming—it definitely is. The real issue is: Is the cost difference in my area justified at the prices listed? While not essential, it matters since I don’t have air conditioning. I’d prefer my fans to run at lower speeds during summer, and avoid releasing excess heat when there’s no way to dissipate it during the day.
AMD offers a superior offer at this cost. To secure it, you must opt for the 10600k model.
