I'm looking at an Alien Ware 15" R3 with a 7700hq processor and two SODIMM slots. I plan to upgrade the memory from the included 16GB (two 8GB) at 2400MHz to 32GB (two 16GB) at 2666MHz. The specs say compatibility up to 3200MHz, but my motherboard only supports 2666MHz with 32GB. HWiNFO lists the chipset as Cm238, which suggests 2666MHz support, yet the memory info shows a max of 1300MHz. This means the controller might not handle higher speeds, or it could be a misunderstanding. Based on what's available, I should consider getting the 2666MHz option if possible. Crucial offers three memory configurations: Normal, Ballistix Sport, and Crucial Ballistix. The prices range from $137.99 to $139.99. My current setup is 17-17-17-39. If upgrading is feasible, I should choose the model that supports 2666MHz for the best performance.

Updating with the latest details shows you need xmp to push past 2400 MHz on Crucial memory, which means it won’t work on my laptop. I read on a Reddit thread that Kingston Hyper X memory performs well in this situation. If anyone has similar issues, feel free to check this post later—I’ll test a stick and see if it helps. I’m also planning to try a dual-channel setup with 32GB (2x16GB) at 2666 MHz to confirm.
