SSD is essential, I wouldn’t settle for anything below around 250 GiB. Typically, a 120 GiB SSD for the system drive and a few TiB for other storage works well, or at least a 250 GiB SSD without an HDD. I’m confident Excel runs beautifully on SSDs. A dedicated graphics card is always handy, around 1050/1650 or similar for AMD, which isn’t expensive and performs well for most tasks. And a backlit keyboard is a nice touch too. I’ll likely have to look up much of what it means, but thank you. I think this is really helpful. Appreciate the idea, though—I prefer typing by touch and can feel the keys on the keyboard. Even with a backlit device, I’d use stickers to switch QWERTY to Dvorak, making the lights useless. I can’t just move button positions because the keys also have Arabic characters, so it would look like this: I might only need it for rarely used symbols or if I ever want to sell the laptop, which I probably won’t in a few decades. So maybe getting one with both would be wise. Thanks again.
I’ve reviewed the discussions and made my choice. I’ll upgrade the PC to 4GB RAM, replace the HDD with an SSD, and check the Crucial upgrade page for additional options. Since I’ll primarily use it for work at first, and given the performance needs of Excel, I think a 4GB setup will suffice for now. I plan to run Minecraft initially with low graphics settings, and later upgrade to at least 8GB once the PC is more valuable. A future upgrade to a desktop with 64-bit Windows and possibly dual monitors seems sensible. Thanks for all the suggestions!
