The motherboard supports the third generation Ryzen CPU. Do you need to update your BIOS to match the new motherboard?

It varies by manufacturing date. You're likely safe since the board probably has CPU-free BIOS updates available.

Third generation Ryzen refers to the Ryzen 3000 series, not the 5000 line. The 5800X isn't from the third-gen Ryzen either. If the B550 motherboard came later, it likely has an updated BIOS—though I’d be happy to help update it if possible. Sometimes AMD’s naming can feel confusing; the Zen 3 architecture is what defines the 5000 series, not a separate "third generation" branding. The Ryzen 2nd generation used Zen+ instead of Zen 2, which does change how things are organized.
