Check if your RAM works with the new motherboard and CPU.
Hello, I received the new motherboard MSI Z490A-Pro and a fresh Intel i7 11700K processor. I currently have four 4-core DDR4 3000MHz RAM sticks with XMP support. When I press the power button, the motherboard powers on and fans begin spinning, but I don’t see any boot. I hear a couple of beep sounds, and I’m unsure what they mean—I think it might be related to a memory compatibility issue. How can I confirm if this is the problem?
It seems the board lacks the right BIOS for that CPU. You should have chosen a Z590 or a model with BIOS flashback support.
I see, your motherboard is compatible with 11. gen, but it requires a BIOS upgrade. The update isn't possible without a 10th gen CPU because it lacks flashback support. I think I'll contact the store to see if they can install the BIOS for a Z590 or locate a nearby shop that offers updates for 10th gen CPUs. Thanks for the guidance. Are there any other options you should consider? Also, it seems your 6th gen Skylake won't fit the socket you're using.
You'd need to utilize a BIOS flashback feature for that CPU. A Z590 board would be more suitable since it supports PCIe 4.0. This isn't a major concern right now but could become relevant soon. If you recently purchased the board, you should be able to return or swap it. Otherwise, contacting a PC store for an update would be the best path forward. Another choice is to purchase a budget 10th-gen CPU like the G5905 or similar Cometlake Celeron models and use it to upgrade. Just ensure you don't use the original cooler to preserve the thermal paste condition before returning it. A 6th-gen Skylake processor isn't compatible with this board.
