It's not necessarily the best idea to start over with a fresh setup, especially when switching such different systems. Although I haven’t installed it on AC Unity before, I’ve backed up important files like BF3, BF4 and Age of Empires 3 in a previous install, restoring them carefully to a new version. This approach isn’t suitable for every game and can take a lot of time searching through the registry for all necessary paths.
I'm not sure if it's necessary. Some friends managed to get a functional setup by simply removing the old motherboard drivers. Still, I understand your reasoning about the registry and others using XP in the past. Win 8.1 will likely be quite different. I plan to check a regedit backup for my games. I was hoping to skip this
If you have a clone tool and an extra drive with some extra time, you could clone the system and test it before proceeding with the registry fix. I prefer keeping a complete native backup whenever I replace hardware, since it’s easy to regain confidence if things go wrong. Good luck!
