I own an ASUS ROG Strix Z590 gaming motherboard, built for the upcoming 11th generation Intel processors. I noticed a review mentioning PCIe 4.0 support but didn’t see any official ASUS promotion for it. I’m wondering if upgrading to the 11th gen is still worthwhile now, especially without PCIe 4.0 support. Since I currently have an i5-10400, I’m unsure if the benefits justify waiting until summer 2021 for a potential 11th gen Intel chip and GPU.
It doesn't really matter right now whether pcie 4.0 is relevant since GPUs don't hit a 3.0 x16 slot and performance stays similar. The slight difference in latency between 3.0 and 4.0 slots isn't noticeable due to bandwidth limitations. Just wait for the right GPU and CPU. For gaming, a 6-core 12-thread processor is more than enough, and for this generation an 8-core/16-thread chip is usually necessary.
