I'm actually agreeing with you. The main reason I shared this was about the situation where I couldn't afford the Ryzen upgrade even after selling my current gear. In that case, I might just install a 9590 and hold off until I earn more for the full upgrade.

I believe a Ryzen 1400 offers improvement over the 9590.

Moved to a newer model, keep using the same components. They work just fine.

It's fine to ask questions. However, the funds you spend on a 9590 could be better used for a Ryzen later. Purchasing it now means you're losing potential savings.

The 990 series holds the top spot among FX mobos. You're all good to change things here.

Don't skimp on VRM cooling; otherwise, the issue will arise. Once everything starts working fine, continuing use until the Ryzen 2 is released and replacing components remains a solid option.

Sure, it should function, but for a 220W TDP chip I wouldn't go that far—stick with the 8350 and boost it to around 4.7 GHz.

The ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 appeared in the official FX-9590 compatibility list. Most premium 6+2 VRM boards from ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, or AsRock would work, though an 8+2 setup seems better. I managed to reach around 5.0 GHz across all cores on my FX-8350 using an ASUS Crosshair V Formula (non-Z).

I finally succeeded. I upgraded to Ryzen and had been thinking about it for a while, but this article was the last push. After selling my AM3+ parts, I only made a loss of around $160. Obviously, the newer R5 2600x performs much better in games and other tasks compared to my old FX-8350.

To ensure thorough understanding, the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2 is definitely equipped to run an FX-9590 chip without issues. Upgrading from an FX-8350 to a 9590 isn’t advisable, as an overclocked 8350 can perform comparably or better. My approach shifted to using a Ryzen processor, which has resolved any unexpected performance concerns. Since then, I’ve experienced stable frame rates consistently. While I should clarify my original inquiry for anyone facing similar challenges, it’s worth noting that many modern titles don’t fully utilize FX chips. Even with strong CPU capabilities, games may not leverage them effectively, causing noticeable bottlenecks. Keep in mind that the FX-8350, based on my experience, can handle most games adequately—though results vary with personal expectations and budget. I’d still suggest it for users seeking a cost-effective gaming setup, but explain the FX limitations to those expecting top-tier performance.
