I usually don’t use laptops, but I need to repair this older HP for retro gaming. It currently has one 4 gig RAM module. I have a 2 gig module that I want to install to reach a total of 6 gigs. Since the capacities differ but the speeds match, will it still function in duel channel?

It will operate in flex mode: the initial 2GB of the 4GB drive will use dual-channel with the additional 2GB stick, and the remaining 2GB will function as a single channel. This setup provides 4GB of fast memory with 2GB acting slower.
