I frequently create 3d renders and animations (both on CPU and GPU) and have a setup with many monitors. My configuration includes an 8K monitor array. I’m using a 7950x with an MSI X670 Pro Wi-Fi motherboard and a GTX 1080 Ti. The display arrangement is: GTX 1080 Ti with three DP ports, one HDMI, one DVI-D, dual link, plus USB-C connections for eight monitors. A friend wanted a similar configuration but with a 13900k instead of the Ryzen 7950x. I was searching for Intel 13th gen boards and didn’t find any that support displays over USB-C. Running dual GPUs isn’t feasible unless they have six output ports, which is rare. Is it possible I’m missing something? Or do 13th gen Intel boards lack USB-C display support like the AMD ones do? My MSI board clearly shows a “DP” logo on its USB-C port, but I haven’t noticed that on any Intel 13th gen boards.

The Intel UHD 770 can connect to up to four displays. Motherboard designers might enable more than two outputs if desired. The highest I've encountered is three, using HDMI, DP/DVI, and VGA on certain budget models meant for basic multi-monitor setups with low-end CPUs and no graphics cards. You'd have to verify each board individually for a USB-C port supporting DP mode, though it seems unlikely most high-end boards include this feature—most assume a dedicated graphics card will be used. Some premium boards even lack video outputs altogether.

There could be factors influencing this difference between AMD and Intel boards. Your setup with multiple displays via USB-C on your MSI board suggests a preference or compatibility issue that isn’t widely reported for Intel systems. It’s possible hardware limitations, driver support, or board design differences play a role.

It seems likely that motherboard manufacturers are planning ahead for the new AMD APUs. According to recent reports, these chips will be extremely powerful, matching or surpassing mobile GPUs like the GTX 1650. Zen 4 APUs are expected to deliver strong graphics performance compared to what we're accustomed to with iGPUs.
