I faced a comparable problem a few months back with a 3080ti. The screen was black but Windows remained active in the background. Luckily, it was a bad PSU, so it wasn’t too costly to replace. Initially, I thought it was the GPU, but after another attempt at troubleshooting, I discovered one of the PCIe power cables had melted onto the PSU. It could be a PSU fault, but if not, a full fresh Windows installation might help—this removes software or hardware issues. DDU works well, though a clean install is better. Other suggestions include reducing overclocking settings and using just one RAM stick (either 2x32GB or 4x16GB).

It could be a good move! Since the board is fairly old, it might be worth giving it a try. Thanks! I’ll give it a shot and find out if it’s useful.

A PSU problem would be far more manageable than spending money on a new GPU, right? I'm definitely going to reinstall Windows. My computer is already pretty simple—just a basic gaming setup. But it's been running smoothly for a long time, so this could be a good attempt! EDIT - I've had some persistent requests from Windows to upgrade to Win11, but I haven't because the last time I tried it it was terrible. Would you think it's worth trying a fresh install or upgrade and checking if the issue continues?

I haven't tested any alternative cables or connectors yet. Would you like me to suggest some common options for troubleshooting?

That sounds like a smart approach! I’ll test using both DisplayPort and HDMI next time it gets a bit overwhelming.

I just had an idea. The computer hasn't moved much inside it. YET, I've frequently connected and disconnected the specific DP cable while using the GPU. Since I rely on the monitor for my remote work laptop, this cable is seeing more use than usual. Could that be the issue?

I agree, but I prefer Windows 11.

Occasionally, the straightforward solution works best.
