The issue began with utorrent reporting a data error due to cyclic redundancy check failures. Running chkdsk took a long time and eventually reached stage 3. After that, the system reported it couldn't read security descriptors. When connected to your PC, it showed 100% active time in Task Manager but wasn't listed in This PC. It briefly worked once before displaying "can't open does not exist." What should you do next?

Check Diskpart and Disk Management for disk details. It might indicate a corrupted filesystem or other issues.

Disconnected the device, accessed disk management, reconnected it.

It worked perfectly after plugging it in again, but any changes made in Windows Explorer—like right-clicking—caused the program to crash. It also doesn’t appear in the CrystalDiskInfo list. Editing its properties in Disk Management caused the issue too. The drive shows as a 16GB partition with random files because it was previously a Windows drive about five years ago, and I haven’t removed Windows or made any other changes.

Disconnecting and reconnecting it doesn’t resolve the issue. Run HWiNFO to verify its SMART status.

I checked using the crystal disk information, but it didn’t recognize it. I attempted to run HWINFO, which caused the program to crash immediately upon clicking start.

This seems to be a frustrating issue. It's unclear what's causing the drive to fail after you opened it and ran a chkdsk scan. The problem might be related to the drive itself, even though it worked before.

It seems to be a Seagate or WD My Passport model, but they’re likely not working properly. There’s a mechanical issue that can’t be repaired. You might notice repetitive, uneven clicking sounds coming from inside the drive.

I didn't do it, but I started experimenting with it and in the end it's pretty much broken now.
