I recently purchased an HP Z400 motherboard paired with a Xeon X5675 using Westmere architecture. I'm curious if it's feasible to unlock the board and CPU for medium overclocking—targeting base speeds around 3.07/3.47 GHz or turbo up to about 3.8/4.2 GHz. I've already posted a discussion about overclocking on this setup, but I'm assuming I have all the necessary components ready. My main goal is to find practical solutions, not just debate whether my hardware can handle it. I'm also interested in how my current power supply, cooler, or other parts might affect performance. If any component fails, I want to know who's responsible. Let's talk about what capabilities my system has after we explore options. I'll focus on the safest and most efficient methods, even if they aren't 100% risk-free. My existing hardware will be used for this test.

It seems you're unsure about using an Xeon W3680 with Intel XTU. Mostly turbo settings won't fully optimize it.

I also learned about these Xeons and that technique. Almost got a W3565, but I needed additional cores... Sorry.

It seems a W3565 doesn't offer an unlocked multiplier. The best option might be a W3680 or W3690, since they match the core count of your X5675 and have similar performance.

It seems we're close to the deadline—the X5675 has already been brought in from Canada. We can't undo the purchase now.
