I believe you need to reinstall Windows completely. Even if he uses only Windows 8, it remains exposed to threats since updates stop coming. What game is this? Did he attempt to run it in Windows 7 compatibility mode?
Windows 7 and 8 are distinct operating systems, meaning he’d need to locate a Windows 7 installation and perform a full reformat to switch to version 7. For Windows 8.1 there’s no straightforward way to undo the update and return to version 8. The alternative suggested is right-clicking the .exe file, going to Properties, adjusting Compatibility settings, and testing options until it functions. Changing the OS is not simple; searching online for similar issues might help find solutions others have used.
I don't understand how 8.1->8 would work, but downgrading to Windows 7 requires business-level changes to Windows 8/8.1 or a custom key. I used that option on my computer from Vista to XP.
I used version 8.1 which was a really bad experience I labeled as Microsoft support. After roughly 30 minutes they provided me with a code for version 7 and simply advised me to just download the OS there’s a code. They tried to persuade me otherwise, but if you’re firm they’ll eventually give up. I know a friend who would pirate version 8 just to get version 7 for free. Just be aware you might lose your drive.
Upgrading to Windows 8 means missing updates since the 8.1 release was required before May 13, which is now past. Switching to Windows 7 demands a valid CD key. If you haven’t tried, consider using Compatibility mode and testing OS transitions at http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/683...s-8-a.html
