Check if Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 supports your Ryzen 2 processor.
Hi, I'm planning to set up an AMD Ryzen PC soon and am torn between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I don't need the UI features like the start screen, so focus on that. Windows 10 is newer but relies heavily on telemetry, while 8.1 offers more control over updates. The kernel and HAL on Windows 10 are better suited for newer CPUs. Decide whether you want to go with Windows 10 or try to run Windows 8.1 on your Ryzen.
For security patches, Microsoft is preventing key updates from newer systems using outdated operating systems
Windows 8 offers comparable telemetry data to Windows 10. Users tend to focus more on the Start screen than on these details or the OS features. While you gain more control over updates on Windows 8, you'll still receive them eventually—so why bother? In reality, you lose control since updates are turned off for modern CPUs. Microsoft doesn't test updates with newer processors, and they don't provide drivers for those CPUs in older Windows versions. This leaves you managing everything yourself, and updates won't arrive unless they function properly. If you've installed Windows on a newer CPU and the features work for you, it's fine. However, Microsoft generally avoids providing support for these configurations.
Actively preventing actions or not recording or releasing updates.
I’ve chosen to use dual booting both systems and change daily between them.
