I'm setting up my first desktop and worried about feeding power to the graphics card. It's an Aorus Master 3080 with 12GB RAM and a 1000W Evga G5 modular PSU. The GPU has three separate 8-pin connectors. I have PCI-E 8-pin to 6+2-pin slots, plus two PCIe 8-pin to 6+2-pin and two x2 PCIe 8-pin to 6+2-pin connectors. My plan is to use one 8-pin to 6+2-pin connector and two 8-pin to 6+2-pin connectors for the GPU. I'm unsure if using two separate PCI-E slots is feasible. It might matter, but other parts of the build are fine. Let me know if you have any advice.
I’m skipping the search but if you need two cables each with a pigtail, go with two. On one, use the 6+2 setup and it works perfectly. Anyone insisting you need three separate cables because of a GPU’s pin count is misleading. With three cables you’re fine, and I’ve run my 3090 at 400W using just two cables for a year with a 750W PSU.
