I've been thinking about swapping my Intel 4970K for an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. I want something that works well with Linux—maybe Mint or pop_os—and ideally supports dual booting. My Asus Z97-A is pretty unusual, especially with its bit configuration. Consider what manufacturers and chipsets to focus on, or what to steer clear of. You also have an ATX case.

Linux drivers often lag slightly behind releases, so allowing a month or two for stabilization makes sense. Skipping unusual setups—such as dual-screen Asus Zenbooks—is also beneficial. Regarding dual booting... the main challenge isn't hardware or Linux itself, but Windows' strict requirements for its own bootloader, particularly during updates. My recommendation is to set up your system so it boots from USB before Windows, and then place your Linux bootloader on a separate USB drive. This ensures Windows always follows its expected process while keeping Linux accessible.
