Hello, I’m planning to assemble a new PC because my Pentium G4500 isn’t delivering enough performance. As a Linux user only, I require hardware that supports the latest distributions. My main needs are for programming, virtualization, Docker, and similar tasks. I don’t want to overclock or focus on gaming. Would anyone have experience with this motherboard? ROG STRIX B760-I GAMING WIFI looks promising at the moment. It’s compatible with: CPU: i5-14500 Memory: Kingston FURY 32GB KIT DDR5 4800MHz CL38 Beast Black (KF548C38BBK2-32) SSD: WD BLACK SN850X NVMe 1 TB I need at least LAN, sound card, USB and USB-C ports, integrated GPU, and an M.2 SSD to ensure smooth performance without any lag. WiFi and Bluetooth aren’t essential, but it would be nice if they worked too. So far, online reviews have been outdated—over six months old. I’ll be using the newest Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or Fedora 40 and newer. Could anyone confirm whether this board will work for my setup? Thank you.

Your mainboard is okay. Linux supports drivers better than Windows. Just be sure to install the NVIDIA proprietary driver if you have it.

Based on my experience, Linux offers strong hardware support overall, though it sometimes struggles with the newest devices because the community takes time to keep up. This particular board features the most recent chipset and CPU generation.

Several users are employing the identical chipset without encountering any issues.

Sure, the 760 series has been available since before 6.2, and we're currently at 6.8—everything should be okay.

Come back when you face issues with the firmware for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, etc.

Hello, I’m pleased to confirm it functions perfectly with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Audio output works fine when tested through headphones. Wi-Fi operates adequately, though speeds occasionally dip to around 250Mb/s, while the router supports up to 867 Mbit/s. Bluetooth and Ethernet connections are stable, with a successful test using a Bluetooth mouse. The iGPU performance is excellent. Temperature readings from lm-sensors also function properly.
