Hey everyone, a year back I purchased the RTX 4090 Zotac edition without any overclocking. However, after updating the NVIDIA driver to version 552.22 on April 16, 2024, I encountered a black screen or no display signal when booting Windows. In safe mode it functions properly, lasting for hours if needed. The BIOS doesn’t show problems with the monitor except after entering my password, which causes a signal loss.

I’ve tried several things: checked cables and connections, kept the desk tidy, ensured all components were securely plugged in. I swapped out different power cables—monitor, HDMI, and DP—and even changed the monitor. Still, no signal post-update.

Using DDU to uninstall the graphics drivers completely helped, but once I reinstalled the old driver (version 552.12), the issue returned. I thought maybe the GPU itself was faulty. The temperatures were normal during games, with the new GPU staying below 55°C, while the previous one reached 60-70°C in demanding titles—even with drivers installed and a 1080P monitor. RAM and CPU tests came back fine.

I tried replacing the GPU with an older RTX 2070 Super, which worked without issues. That made me suspect the new RTX 4090 might be the problem. I also swapped my PSU cables and changed to the original one from before. It worked for about an hour before crashing again. Removing HDDs and using only SSDs helped temporarily, but after a crash, it would restart.

I opened the PSU and found some black residue on the top of the tanks, which made me worried. My wife suggested replacing the PSU, which we did. She also mentioned hearing a burning smell before the update, which made me suspect a faulty PSU. The fan didn’t spin at all during power-up or under load, even with the new GPU.

I’ve taken multiple photos of the PSU and components to share. It seems like the PSU might be failing, possibly due to the black liquid or damaged fans. I’m still unsure but am planning to replace it soon.

I've recently purchased a new PSU (Asus ROG 1200W Gold Aura Edition Modular 80 Gold - ATX 3.0 PCIe Gen 5.0 Power supply) and still encountering the same issues. Although it lasts longer, under certain conditions—especially during gaming with high GPU usage—it will occasionally crash or fail to respond, sometimes not showing any signal right after the glitch. For video games, performance varies; I've experienced issues ranging from 10 minutes up to a maximum of about 7 hours. Regarding the stress test, it takes around 4 out of 5 minutes for the GPU to fail under stress. I plan to file an RMA and follow the warranty process. I'll keep you updated once the return is processed and hopefully it gets resolved soon. Thanks for your attention.
